The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi is a tremendous epic. Just amazing. The magic, the creatures, the villains, the supporting characters, the feel of time and place-all fantastic. But the best of all is Amina al-Sirafi herself. She is an older woman who lived many years on the water as a pirate, with trauma both physical and mental remaining.

Her voice is singular and definite. In times of peril, her inner voice both strategizes on the fly to find a way to survive, and also struggles with chronic pain and the fatigue of an older body. I loved her.

I believe this is what some would call a barnstormer of a book. I loved it. I will happily read any further adventures she may undertake. Fantastic.

I received an ARC as a Goodreads giveaway from the publisher. My opinion is solely my own.
