My second Blake Crouch novel did not disappoint. I was slightly hesitant going in because I wasn't really sure what to expect, but ended up being pleasantly surprised. This was very different than Dark Matter, my previous Crouch read, but it was great nonetheless.
Ethan is a Secret Service agent who is sent to Wayward Pines to investigate the disappearance of two other agents. Immediately upon arrival, he is in a car accident that leaves his without a phone, wallet, or any information regarding who he is. As each minute passes, more curious questions arise that Ethan can't answer or figure out and no one seems to remember his accident or who he is. Will Ethan be able to return to his family, or even find a way out of town before he loses everything?
Ethan wasn't the most likeable character, but I still found myself very invested in his outcome. There was one part towards maybe the 75% mark that I skimmed because it was SO repetitive I was just waiting for it to be over and move on. That almost ruined it for me, because it felt so dragged out and unnecessary. While this book was mainly a thriller/mystery, there were bits of sci-fi/dystopian themes that I typically don't like in a book, but did enjoy in this one - it just worked for me. I highly recommend it!
