Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson

5.0

"I only stare," he said "when I see something too beautiful for my eyes to take in at once."

This story is beautiful. While demonstrating a true appreciation for the creation of art, this book, in turn, becomes its own form of art.

I was immediately invested in the stories of the main characters. Yumi and Painter couldn't be more opposite, but both are required to solve the strange problems their homes face. They are two halves of a whole. I loved the sweet, gradual, forbidden romance that forms between them as they alternately wake up in the other's place. It even had me getting emotional toward the end.

The story moves at a slower pace than we might expect from some of Sanderson's more action-packed novels, but the worlds we get to visit are so immersive that I was completely content going along on the journey.

I don't want to say much more and give anything away, but I absolutely loved this book! Please read it!
