Sea of Ruin by Pam Godwin
3.0
This is a high 3 star for me because I enjoyed it...but it wasn't good. But it was like candy, dark romance candy. Plus unlike a lot of reviews I don't care that this is a reverse harem (pleasant surprise for me) or that the two males were in a relationship prior to this.
I do have an issue with the ending though but I don't feel like typing up another paragraph at the moment.
I am typing up my issue now, because I think it’s important for any BIPOC to know before reading this book. Every black character except one was a slave or a victim, and felt like a vehicle for the heroine to be well…a heroine. The ending rubbed me the wrong way because they continue their piracy by capturing slave ships. Since Ashley Cutler loved his country, like ok cool keep loving your colonizer country I guess??? Like it was so weird fo me. It made me uncomfortable but did I still read and enjoy the experience anyway??? Yeah. I completely understand if someone else didn’t though.
I will advise anyone who wants to read this that this a DARK romance. Like I think the darkness is a bit like Misery Tango Torture type of deal. It just always gets worse until it delivers the happy ending. If you're not into anything problematic, especially rape, torture, and what I mentioned above don't read this book. I know it has it's issues but I enjoyed it anyway.
