The Vanishing by Jayne Ann Krentz
4.0
Years ago in the town of Fogg Lake there was an incident, an explosion that released unknown gases, which lead to some town folk having special abilities. A fog rolls in at night so thick you can’t find your way unless your a local. There’s a cave that makes you have hallucinations where teenagers sneak on dares to spend the night. This is where the story begins. 14 years ago Olivia and Catalina witness a murder in the cave system. In the present, Olivia has been kidnapped from the Seattle streets and Catalina has to work with a scientist Slater to solve who took her and why.
This book is definitely a paranormal romance, urban fantasy, mystery mash up and I loved it. I wanted something that would let me suspend reality during travel. This book did not make me think about the fact I was hurdling through the air in a tin can at 575 mph...and I thank it. The story was engaging and I couldn’t wait to figure out the whole mystery.
There is A LOT of information given to you in the books. Also, oddly, not enough. That’s because it’s going to be a series. You’re introduced to so many characters and I felt like I was missing some back story. There’s also SO much to discover and at sometimes my mind sort of swirled with all the information given to me.
Here’s what I really didn’t like. The romance portion. Yes it was very blush-worthy if you’re into that. However, it happened SO FAST. Like Disney Princess fast. If I’m going to read a romance I need at least some build up.
I enjoyed this book. It’s what I was in the mood for. It kept me from my travel anxiety. Also, I want to live in Fogg Lake and have the ability to see auras.
