Rafe by Rebekah Weatherspoon

4.0

I was BLESSED (yes, all those capitols are really necessary), by being gifted an ARC of this gem, and I do say this was the best thing to happen to me all month. If you enjoy reading romance, or just need a small piece of happiness in your life then just have a little faith and buy this book...right now.

Sloan is everything I ever needed and wanted in a heroine; she's beautiful. talented, smarter than all the men in her life, and unapologetically Black. She is an established surgeon, and wonderful mother who's life becomes momentarily turned upside down because her caretaker dipped at the last moment, but honestly thank God, because Rafe, he was NEEDED in her life.

Rafe is a tall, tattooed, ginger man who fits into Sloan's life like a perfect puzzle piece. He is thoughtful, and so kind to her children; there are many moments in this book where the awhs just sort of slip out because its crafted in a way where the hero acts like a decent human being. It's wonderful, and feels like a fairy-tale because he's so in tune to Sloan's wants/needs/concerns while also being able to self reflect on what he can handle and what he can actually provide her, its magical. And, can I just take a moment to talk about the sex, whew, chile it's good. If you're into romance that shows consent, and intimacy where both parties are equally into one another (I mean, that 69 scene WHEW), then this is it, this is the book for you.

Listen, my love for Rafe is strong, like if a Rafe walked through my door right now I would have to save this post for later a peace out, but honestly read this story for Sloan. I think this story is made for the Sloan's of the world. For wonderful, beautiful, talented women of color who are trying to navigate this world while the forces are actively against them. She had to deal with the pressures of her controlling ex-husband, her difficult job, and finding a capable person to watch over her children. Her life wasnt easy, and with the helpful advice from her friends (speaking of...I need a standalone from all of them) she opened up, and allowed something wonderful to take part in her life.

If you're a fan of fluffy romance featuring an accomplished Black woman. and a ginger bearded nanny, boy do I have a story for you. Even if you don't think you are, you should give this book a chance, its worth it. Buy it from Amazon, Request it for your library, or try to borrow it from a friend, whatever the means definitely read this book.
