This grief memoir feels authentic and real. The author writes in short paragraphs but the entries vary in length paralleling her own processing of her grief related to the sudden loss of her husband Kurtis, who dies while running a half marathon. As the author is still reeling from the loss of her husband she experiences her own life threatening medical event. It’s a lot to handle and the author effectively conveys this. The author portrays grief so true to life as shocking and leaving her overwhelmingly sad and empty. My only complaint is I would have liked to learn more about Kurtis and Amy in the book. I listened to a podcast (Book Gang) that was excellent and did provide background and led me to buy the book from Zibby’s Bookstore at the LA Times Festival of Books.
