Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë

5.0

It took me two years from when I first tried to read Wuthering Heights to when I finished it. Mostly this was because I wasn’t in the mood for it and wasn’t well-read enough to understand some of it, but once I started again from the beginning I loved it. I felt for Catherine and Heathcliff so immensely and the quotes they use to describe each other are too poetic to simply be called poetry. Their love is consuming and treacherous and yet I still loved it. At some points in the book I was getting so frustrated by Nelly and I think she is one of the most unbearable characters ever thought of. Towards the end of the book I started to get a little bit bored. I ended up taking a while to get through this part but in the end it was worth it. I enjoyed this book a lot however if you get bored during slower parts of a book and can’t get through them this book might not be the best fit for you. I found some of my now all time favorite quotes from this book and I really loved the aesthetics and themes of the book. Catherine for me was actually such a relatable character. Some of her feelings and the manner in which she dealt with them just felt like my own temptations on paper. The themes in this book were very powerful and I haven’t read something quite like it before so I am glad I was able to push through some of the boring parts.
