The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

5.0

Okay am gonna be real honest here. When I read the first 30-40 pages, I was gonna DNF it, struggling cuz I wasnt invested in Linus or his supervising job over orphanages. But be patient, it gets better, so much better that by the end I was laughing and crying happy tears. It became one of my favourite books!

The plot loosely revolves around Linus an officer being sent to this orphanage by DICOMY (magical institution for magical children) which was a classified one because the children here were unnatural and probably not even human. Linus didn't think much of it until he saw the first name in the file.

The name was Lucy, short for Lucifer, 6 yro, child of Devil, antichrist and a pic attached which made Linus' blood run cold. Not only that he found himself transported to that island. Scared he found himself in the company of an island sprite named Zoe who took him to the island.

Upon reaching the house Linus' cat Calliope ran away. When he went after the cat he met the children. Talia, a female garden gnome with beard and all, who threatened to kill him and dig him. Theodore, a wyvern; Phee, a forest spite; Sal, a boy who could shapeshift into a dog; Chauncey, a translucent being who wanted to be a bellhop but people called him monster because of his looks, and Lucy. Finally he met Arthur who was the master of the orphanage.

Linus a man who has lived by the book is determined to do the same but he not only unravels mysteries regarding the kids but also himself.

What to expect? Heart warming moments, notorious yet adorable children, unheard of fictional characters, adventures, quests, lines which will stay with you, LGBTQ + elements and ofc the cerulean sea.

It was such a cute story, it warmed my heart and I would recommend it to everyone. If you happen to pick atleast 1 book during these uneasy times because of COVID-19 or in life in general, pick this up!!
