We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

This is not my first time reading this essay, and I have also seen the TED talk it is based on. I think it is incredibly well written and it puts into words something I again and again try to explain to people in my life and fail at:
"The problem with gender is that it prescribes what we should be rather than recognizing how we are. Imagine how much happier we would be, how much freer to be our true individual selves, if we didn't have the weight of gender expectations."
Adichie uses many examples from her own life as a Nigerian woman, small instances and situations in her life, and the life of people around her, that together show the need for feminism in modern society. How we must all do better. She is right, and she should say it.
This is a very short read, but it is also very informative. I think everyone should read it or listen to the TED at least once.
