The Beauty in Breaking: A Memoir by Michele Harper

4.0

This feels a lot like a collection of Grey's Anatomy episodes, with a sharper focus on racism and sexism in medicine and beyond. The narrative arc feels a bit disconnected and maybe even a little forced, but Harper makes compelling and important points through the individual encounters she highlights and it's heartening to see experiences like hers given room on the shelf. Her perspective on pursuing a medical career is certainly worth having in the canon. I'd love to read a follow-up someday.
