Of Darkness and Ruination by Rachel Fallon

5.0

This book has been delectable! I'm so glad that I signed up to be an ARC reader for Ms. Rachel Fallon's debut novel. All of you readers who love a high fae romance, enemies-to-lovers, touch-her-and-you-die, need to pick up this book!

This book is about a young human woman, Asteria Zagreus, who upon turning 21 has to attend a "placement event" where the ruling fae determine what kingdom she will be moved to to fulfill her lifetime service as a $lave. This event takes place every year for all the humans turning 21, and this is mainly to separate the humans from their parents who loved and raised them, so they will never see them again.

Asteria has never wanted to be a slave, but she grew up in a court that did not treat their slaves very poorly, but she has always hoped and wished for a situation to arise where she could be freed from her current prison of a life.

When she arrives at the Dusk Court, she finds out that she has been chosen to be The Crown Prince's "personal assistant" and she rightly assumes that this position will include tasks that she is NOT willing to fulfill. While serving in the Dusk Court, she finds out from her contacts that there may be a way out and away from the less than ideal master, Crown Prince Cyrus.

The Night Court has not attended the "Placement Day" for many years, and it's known that they frequently attack the other Kingdoms.

There is so much political intrigue, witty banter, beautiful fae and humans, and astonishing architectural description! I recommend this book for all Romantasy and or High Fantasy readers!
