Anathema: Causal Enchantment Series, Book 1 by K.A. Tucker

This book was just not very good. I don't really know why there are so many 5 star reviews. Spoilers ahead! First off why would anyone go on a trip with a lady they just met who is acting very strange? Apparently Evangeline was lonely and just wanted someone to notice her (from the description) though that was not apparent at all in the book until much later when she tells someone that she had no one. Okay...so you break a ladies lamp, she is kind of weird about it one moment being like it is fine, the next like well you can pay for it, and then run off with her. Yep makes sense...that and Evangeline was just annoyingly stupid and I really didn't like her. Really I didn't like anyone as no one seemed to really have any personality and it was just...there was no chemistry between any of them, except maybe the dog who was my favorite. It was just really flat and uninteresting, even though the idea could have been good if it would have been executed better. Oh my other issue - there is this second world where humans used to live 700 years ago, and yet the vampires there know the current human technology and slang? Really? I don't buy it. It was like the author couldn't think of an actual different world, so they just used this one and didn't really change anything except no humans. Great.
