The Apartment by S.L. Grey
4.0
I picked up a galley of this at a book swap and it was one of those pleasant surprises where it turned out to be really enjoyable. A South African couple does an apartment swap with a couple in France...although there might not be any couple in France. Just an apartment with some very bad ju-ju. I enjoy horror that's made up of just little things seeming off with no clear explanation. For that reason I enjoyed the build-up to the book more than the climax, which was probably inevitable. The book doesn't over-explain anything, I'm happy to say, knowing that it's better to just let the Bad Place type of haunted house (as Stephen King calls it) speak for itself. But it's definitely those early details of the apartment itself that will stick with me.
