Beasts Made of Night by Tochi Onyebuchi

I had a lot of trouble getting this book to hold my attention. I tried to brush it off as it just not being my cup of tea, but it seems others also had a similar difficulty. The plot is there, but it's not well built up in the first half of the book. Most of it gets rushed in at the end. I know because I skimmed the second half of the book to get through it. It's a little predictable, given the nature of the world that the author builds and the concept of the story, which is quite interesting.
I was never able to emotionally connect with the main character, which was unfortunate. I feel like the book is written in such a way that it would make a better screenplay than a book, but again, it's not a bad book. Just a rough one.
All in all, I sadly can't really recommend this one as I just couldn't get through it without skimming the second half. I just couldn't get into it. But if you choose to read it, I hope you have more joy in doing so than I did.
