Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
5.0
I didn't know much about this book when I picked it up from my flatmates bookshelf, other than that it had been well read and highly acclaimed over the previous year.
Right away I loved the flow of the storytelling, and the description of how Kya grew up, had to fend for herself, and longed for relationships were so well written, so intriguing. When the first half of the book came to a cloose I was emotinally attached, aching to get deeper into the plot.
The second part of the book, and the trial was still a pleasure to read, but honestly I wouldn't have minded being with teenage Kya in the swamp for yet another couple of hundred pages. That was the part that I enjoyed the most- it really set the book apart from other things I've read.
Coming to the end I tried to make the last 50 pages to last as long as possible, at the same time not wanting to put this incredible story down for long.
This is an amazing debut novel. I find myself thinking back to it all the time and hoping for the life of me that Delia Owens decides to carry on writing fiction and sharing it with the world.
Not a bad thing to say, just very grateful that I got to have this reading experience.
