“Most of all, I hate you because I think of you. Often. It’s disgusting, and I can’t stop.”

My lord.

I have a grudge against all those people on the internet who told me that this series, particularly this book was bad and undeserving of people's time. The main reason for the hate towards this book is that everyone chimes in with high expectations of "enemies to lovers" that it would be just that, except for the fact that it's not. And I liked that. I loved that romance was a sub plot instead of being the whole plot like every other YA Fantasy stories (exceptions exist). There's not a lot of romance in here and I'm quite pleased by that.
Also people are like "this is not enemies-to-lovers, this is just enemies" and I'm like ??? Is that supposed to be a bad thing? I mean that's exactly how it should play. They should BE enemies to become lovers later, not like those so called enemies-to-lovers where they aren't even enemies but just people with misunderstandings between them. I love how the famous trope plays in this book. Jude and Cardan are mean and manipulative with each other. They aren't being lovey-dovey, they ARE enemies (with benefits sometimes). This book was so fun!

Mythologically correct fae!! They can't lie and are extremely mean and manipulative and strike duels against people. There are a lot of creatures except just fae which was impressive. There are pixies, trolls, imps, goblins, hobs, etc. I've been missing out on so much because I had somehow convinced myself that this series wouldn't be my cup of tea and that it's trash. But oh, how wrong I was. I really liked the cunning political game that faeries play in this world. It was so entertaining.

The world building is not very good. It hinges on the reader's prior knowledge of fae mythology. Holly Black didn't create her own world or explain the already existing world. So this would be a bit tough for those who know nothing about faeries or other creatures that exist in this book.

Jude is such a refreshing YA main character because she knows what she wants. She's manipulative, mean and selfish and in one word, a badass. While Cardan was the annoying, mean prince of the kingdom who was also a bully so yeah I didn't like him. But it was fun to read about a character like him, the way his character grew a bit (or seemed to grow) by the end of the book. He really was such a despicable character.

And the Ghost! That's the man I have a crush on now. And of course he's a side character. Why do I always end up falling for side characters?

Also, Alright I know that Locke was the bad guy who was playing with both the sisters but I hate Taryn. I kind of guessed that Locke was her supposed fiance. She knew that Locke and Jude were definitely more than friends yet she didn't think it would be awful to marry a guy like that and betray her sister? No, all that "showing Locke that I was different" were mere excuses and didn't make sense at all. She's actually being a bitch. Especially when she suggested to Madoc that Jude must know where Cardan was.
But that doesn't mean that I don't hate Locke. That guy deserves the hate. I can't believe I actually kinda liked him in the beginning because of obvious reasons.

And I'm sorry but Cardan was playing cards with The Roach, the ghost and the bomb instead of being tied to a chair, being miserable? That was hilarious.

“Everything is spiraling into chaos anyway,” says Cardan. “Might as well have some fun. Don’t you think, Jude?”

I seem to forget that he was an actual bully in the story, before shit went down.
