Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë

2.0

I really struggled to rate this book as although it is awful it at times gives the distinct impression that that is actually the point of the book, to be disagreeable. I settled on two stars which seems fair in comparison to how I have rated other books (not as bad as Frsnkenstein but not something I'd ever choose to read again).
The choice of the narration being through the telling of the housekeeper seems ill advised, it means you get none of the charachters personal thoughts or feelings which leads to an inability to understand motivations.
As most people who have heard of this book will already know, the characters are awful, all of them. I do not care what hardships may have befallen them, there is no excuse for the awful behaviour.
In the entire book, which follows many charachters throughout their misery the only one I felt sorry for was Hareton because he tried and he deserved better than what he got in my opinion.
Im glad I read this book however that is mostly just so I will be able to have an actual opinion when asked about it rather than through any love of the book itself, I would not read it again, nor would I reccomend it to a friend.
