Kill Your Husbands by Jack Heath

4.0

What a premise for a book – a weekend away with friends with that ends in partner swapping & multiple murders! What’s not fun about that! Haha! Jack Heath has crafted an entertaining and twisty mystery that kept me guessing right to the very end.

Kill Your Husbands follows 3 couples who have been lifelong friends on a weekend away to a remote holiday home in the mountains. With no phone reception and only one car between them, there is no escape from confronting all the secrets and lies holding their marriages and friendships together. When they decide to swap partners and have one night of anonymous sex never to be spoken of again, things go from bad to worse with some not making it through the night.

Written from multiple character point of views, including the police detective and her partner who end up staying at the “murder house” and investigating the crime, this hooked me from the first chapter. None of the characters are particularly likeable which made it even more fun to guess who the murderer was. While there were some great red herrings which added interest to the story, there was one that annoyed me and that was using only first names or only Mr & Mrs last names depending on which of the dual timelines the chapter was in. It felt like it was used solely to trick the reader and interrupted my enjoyment of the storyline. But there were some great scenes that snuck up and shocked me and the pacing was brilliant.

If you’re keen for a fun and entertaining murder mystery read with lots of twists and turns, I highly recommend checking this one out – you will not be disappointed by this wild ride!
