Family curses! Long-lost children! Incestuous designs! Flattened royalty! Supernatural headgear! Castles! Secret passages! Love at first sight! Duels! Unfortunate impaling!

And that's just the first night!

This is some pure, concentrated Gothic right here. The tropes and twists are packed so closely I thought I was reading a long prologue when the book was actually over. But that makes for a fun read. It's not as entertaining (read: insane) as The Monk but I'm very glad I finally read this early Gothic tale.
