The Flash: Rebirth by Geoff Johns

2.0

I am not a big reader of the DC universe. Most of my exposure comes from animation, film and television. I think I got an issue of the Flash at one point growing up. I have a vague recollection of him working for the IRS and trying to get back taxes from some super powered individuals. I couldn't even tell you which Flash it was that was in the suit at the time.

With the success of the television series, I thought I'd check out a trade to see what the comics were like. Rebirth sounded like it would be a good starting point/ way to test the waters. And it may be on some levels. But it isn't a work that eases the new reader in. No, you're handed a weight and pushed into the deep end of the character's mythology. I think this story caters more to the already existing fan. The return of an old character, appearances from what I would imagine is everyone that has ever worn or could ever don the red lighting suit, occasional cutaways to random side characters/villains that aren't part of the actual story.

It's not bad, but it's not a great starting point for a new reader.
