So You Want to Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo

inspiring reflective medium-paced

5.0

I started reading this book just over 2 years ago, but I got distracted and never finished.

It's a practical book, with lots of real-time examples, and is really approachable. It also approaches race from an intersectional viewpoint, discussing how sexism, classism, and ablism all affect racism, as well as some nuance discussion about how different ethnic and racial groups experience racism differently. There's some great advice, particularly in the last chapter, of how white people can overcome their tendency to overreact when they get called out for racist words and actions.

Highly recommended.
