An Artist of the Floating World has as subtle and changeable narrative as the title suggests. Throughout the whole book I had a feeling of grasping for a secret hidden somewhere beneath all the words, but it was slipping away at each attempt. A book like a Japanese box with a secret. Highly recommended.
