The Red Scrolls of Magic by Wesley Chu, Cassandra Clare
5.0
This book is definitely going on my favourites shelf!!! Magnus might as well be one of my most favourite characters ever, so of course whenever there's a book about him, I'm going to love it.
The only thing a tiny bit problematic is that it's only amazing to TSC fans, because otherwise you don't really get any of the puns and context in here. And boy, there's a lot of it. At the beginning of the book I was planning on writing a very brief review about how awesome this is and how you should definitely read it, but turns out there is just a lot of moments here I have to comment on, so I guess here comes the SPOILER ALERT. (Just beware, some spoilers are also for [b:Queen of Air and Darkness|13541056|Queen of Air and Darkness (The Dark Artifices, #3)|Cassandra Clare|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1510447136s/13541056.jpg|19104298] )
And here's where I have to strongly disagree with her (well later on with that all "father Asmodeus" thing too, but this is more important). Like come on! Who on earth would pick up this book only to witness our main OTP defeat an evil cult. We are in the age of shippers and just shippers are gonna ship!
Besides party planning there are just some basics. You know, like magic, trying to get his revenge and bring his dead love back to life. Just the every-day things…
A person would think that after making us all suffer in [b:Queen of Air and Darkness|13541056|Queen of Air and Darkness (The Dark Artifices, #3)|Cassandra Clare|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1510447136s/13541056.jpg|19104298] by showing as Thule!Raphael and then taking him away from us Cassie would be finally done with the torture. But nooo. That would be just too easy. She has to put the knife deep into my gut and then twist it again and again and again. Come on, Cassie! Seeing him alive again is hurting me. I think I'll never get over this.
I just had to put this quote here, because come on. Considering how young Raphael was when he was turned into a vampire, he's such a badass. Also this might have just become my favourite Raphael's quote.
This is just mean to Simon. He doesn't deserve that. Despite that I agree here with Raphael, an ideal relationship :D.
This was the exact moment my heart was shattered to pieces. I loved their relationship and it's really a shame we couldn't see more of it. I'm still really sad over this to talk about it, so I'll just move on to the next quote:
Wow. That got harsh quite fast. Like I guess that in this moment Jace is the hero and all, but this just isn't fair to Alec. Plus Alec has so much more sexappeal than Jace, because he inherited Cecily's genes. But honestly, I just wanted to slap this random girl at that moment. I really wouldn't have been surprised if it turned out to be Zara.
Yeah, sure. That is totally the only reason why would Aline want Helen's phone number :D. I had to laugh so hard while reading this. Watching the beginning of Halen and Aline's relationship was one of the many things I probably enjoyed the most about this book. I love them both so much and this was just awesome.
Well, we all knew that from the beginning, so I still don't get why it took him over 250 and being put in a prison to realise that. I would never expect so much optimism even from Magnus.
This was actually my most favourite quote from the whole book and basically the reason why I love Magnus so much. They say Herondales are awesome because of their sarcastic and sassy character. Oh, please. They have so much more to learn from Magnus (ok, maybe not Will, Will's perfect).
Yes Aline, we should always think about the environment and how to avoid more air pollution, even when we happen to be surrounded by evil cultists and a bunch of demons!
And last but not least:
Can't say this is the greatest cliff-hanger ever, but it definitely keeps me on my toes. And also how the hell is Ragnor going to get out of this. It seemed to me that Magnus looked quite surprised when he saw Ragnor in [b:Queen of Air and Darkness|13541056|Queen of Air and Darkness (The Dark Artifices, #3)|Cassandra Clare|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1510447136s/13541056.jpg|19104298], so how could he save him, when he doesn't know and probably won't know his amazing green friend is alive??? This cliff-hanger only means one thing: no sleep for me tonight…

“All reconciled?” asked Shinyun. “Because, sorry to be rude, but this is incredibly awkward to sit through. I’m not here to witness your relationship growth. I just want to defeat the evil cult.”
And here's where I have to strongly disagree with her (well later on with that all "father Asmodeus" thing too, but this is more important). Like come on! Who on earth would pick up this book only to witness our main OTP defeat an evil cult. We are in the age of shippers and just shippers are gonna ship!
“Oh, I dabble in many things, party planning among them.” Malcolm waved a hand toward the spectacle of the grand ballroom.
Besides party planning there are just some basics. You know, like magic, trying to get his revenge and bring his dead love back to life. Just the every-day things…
This was a vampire, and Alec knew him.
“Raphael?” he asked. “Raphael Santiago?”
“How about you, Vampire Without a Cause?”
“I’m not gay,” said Raphael. “I’m not straight. I’m not interested.”
“Your sexuality is ‘not interested’?” Alec asked curiously.
Raphael said, “That’s right.”
I just had to put this quote here, because come on. Considering how young Raphael was when he was turned into a vampire, he's such a badass. Also this might have just become my favourite Raphael's quote.
“That can’t be,” said Raphael. “Isabelle can do better.”
“Er, do you know my sister?” Alec asked.
“She threatened me with a candelabra once, but we don’t really chat,” said Raphael. “Which means we have my ideal relationship.”
This is just mean to Simon. He doesn't deserve that. Despite that I agree here with Raphael, an ideal relationship :D.
Then he remembered Raphael sitting alone and texting a number saved as RF, and never getting any texts back.
Ragnor Fell.
This was the exact moment my heart was shattered to pieces. I loved their relationship and it's really a shame we couldn't see more of it. I'm still really sad over this to talk about it, so I'll just move on to the next quote:
A girl at the front of the group sagged in disappointment. “Oh, it’s not Jace Herondale. It’s just some guy.”
“Do you have her phone number?” Aline asked. “In case we get separated, or something?”
Yeah, sure. That is totally the only reason why would Aline want Helen's phone number :D. I had to laugh so hard while reading this. Watching the beginning of Halen and Aline's relationship was one of the many things I probably enjoyed the most about this book. I love them both so much and this was just awesome.
“It’s official,” he declared to no one in particular. “This is the worst vacation ever.”
Well, we all knew that from the beginning, so I still don't get why it took him over 250 and being put in a prison to realise that. I would never expect so much optimism even from Magnus.
“You can poison me and throw me in a dungeon. You can beat me and even sacrifice me to a Greater Demon. But I draw the line at wearing a white suit for an evening event.”
This was actually my most favourite quote from the whole book and basically the reason why I love Magnus so much. They say Herondales are awesome because of their sarcastic and sassy character. Oh, please. They have so much more to learn from Magnus (ok, maybe not Will, Will's perfect).
“Wow, there are a lot of cultists,” Aline muttered. “They must have carpooled.”
Yes Aline, we should always think about the environment and how to avoid more air pollution, even when we happen to be surrounded by evil cultists and a bunch of demons!
And last but not least:
“You have no choice. Nobody is coming to save you,” she said, cold and sure. “You’re all on your own, Ragnor Fell. Everybody thinks you’re dead.”
