Barbarian's Prize by Ruby Dixon
5.0
Barbarians Prize follows Tiffany, who we met in book 1. She is one of the only 2 human women left at this point that haven’t resonated with any of the sa’khui men. Tiffany has been considered one of the most desirable humans since the beginning of the series due to her beauty, ability to pick up skill quickly, and friendly demeanor. Many of the single Sa’khui try to get her attention and to court her but Tiffany has no interest in having any kind of romantic relationship or resonating. Tiffany’s experience on the space ship after being abducted was very traumatic and she hasn’t been able to properly heal from it. Tiffany befriends Saluhk, one of the Sa’khui who isn’t obnoxiously drooling over themselves for a chance to win Tiffany over. They begin a genuine friendship and he is able to help Tiffany begin her healing process.
This book was very heavy and emotional for a book that’s supposed to be a “silly alien smut” Don’t get me wrong, I definitely laughed throughout this book, but it just really deals with some serious subject matter and some deeply personal emotional journeys happen. I love this series so much and I normally read these as palette cleansers between fantasy novels so I can just lay back and enjoy the ride. This book is not that style whatsoever. This book read more as an emotional romance story than a little smutty book. If you take expectations out of the picture, it’s a wonderful story surrounding this two people.
