Things I Find While Shelving

I’m still not sure which I love more: the story or the writing. Maybe by the time I finish this review, I’ll have it figured out. Or maybe not, who knows!

So Michael May is a cop. And he’s kind of got some anger issues right now for a variety of reasons - many of which stem from and begin with his dad, who was not a great parental figure. And who also had some anger issues. And May is terrified he’s going to end up like his dad. He kind of fucks up on the job (I can’t blame him, *I* would’ve wanted to beat the shit out of that guy, too), which means he needs to step away. He decides to go to the family home which he inherited from his father, located in a small town called Trowchester.

After dealing with the mind games his father is still playing despite being six feet under, May is wandering around the town and he finds this quaint little used book store and meets the proprietor, Finn.

They hit it off pretty well to start.

Except Finn is has not always lived a squeaky clean life. And the not so squeaky part of his life is coming back to kick him. Which is exactly what he doesn’t need when he’s trying to start a sort of relationship type thing with an ex cop.

May wants to help Finn, and he himself his starting to figure out who he is and where he stands in his life and how much of an influence his father has had on him.

And the story is so well written. Such beautiful use of language. I swear I highlighted like…half the freaking book. So many wonderful quotes. The whole thing is just. Such a great story.
