The Sound of Storms by Anya Keeler

3.0

Thank you to Anya Keeler for sending me this book! It is always such an honor to read a writers work and I just appreciate you reaching out to me. I am so excited for you and what is to come!

This book holds a lot of great tropes like:
enemies(rivals) to lovers
why choose
found family

I love all of those things and I loved seeing them incorporated into the story. I also really loved how diverse the book was as well! All of the different sexualities, pronouns was spot on and not something I see often in the romantasy genre. I liked that they were also not made to be a big deal. That gets annoying and I just loved how it was normal(because hello it is and it should be). I really loved that this book has a solid plot. It is straight forward and I think the author did a great job at making the plot the main focus while still adding those romance aspects.

I did have a few issues with this book that made it hard for me as a reader to want to keep reading. I think that Aria(she is 29) read very immature to me and I was getting annoyed. Before anyone comes at me, I do realize she is fae and they live for a very long time(she was also very sheltered), so these all play a roll into how she is, but I just found it annoying and I really wanted more from her. I would have loved more showing of her powers vs telling. My other biggest issue is that for most of the book they are traveling from place to place and it just got very repetitive. I am all for a build up in a fantasy book, but I found that all the traveling made the book feel boring when there could have been some really great action in there. When we do get to the end and finally hit the pinnacle of the book it was resolved very quickly. I was hoping for more and left feeling disappointed.

Overall, it is a solid debut novel and I think that there is a lot of amazing growth that could happen to make the second book even better.
