The Girlfriend by Michelle Frances
3.0
This book is advertised as a thriller but really isn't that thrilling - is more of a drama novel.
I honestly had high expectations from the high ratings and good reviews of this book but was slightly disappointed. The book was intriguing and interesting at times but a struggle at others - the pace was all over the place which took away from some of the storyline.
Daniel was the only bearable character and, although unlikeable characters are sometimes pivotal for the story, Cherry and Laura bordered on petty and overly annoying, though Laura was at least slightly bearable and you were able to sympathise with her and understand her actions.
The feud between mother and girlfriend was reasonable and believable at first but became very twisted and unrealistic towards the end but I guess that's what creates the conflict.
Overall, I had mixed feelings about this book, with the premise and start of the book being good but it slowly degraded over time and the ending seemed quite sudden and slightly left of field.
If you're looking for an intense, on-edge thriller then this probably isn't your book but is, overall, a good read and I wouldn't say no to reading another book by this author.
