The Mothers by Brit Bennett

5.0

This. Fucking. Book.

I went into this completely blind. I bought it secondhand for $2 because I liked the cover. I read it because it's Black History Month and I thought what better time to read this than in February? And God I wish I hadn't waited so long. This story was so rich and the characters so real and the emotions so raw. The writing was beautiful, and if I had to compare it to anything else I've ever read, I would say it reminds me of Celeste Ng's writing, which is the biggest compliment I could give because both of Ng's books were 5 star reads for me. I desperately want to get my hands on Brit Bennett's next book because if it's anything like this one, then I've found myself a new favourite, auto-buy author.
