Blood Scion by Deborah Falaye

3.4/5
Initially dragged my leg in reading this (i was in a slump) but it was totally worth it.
I have to applaud all the research deborah put into this book. The story telling of Yoruba history and ancestry ignited a fire in me to learn about my culture. I also had so much fun being able to translate all the yoruba without help (thank you mom for keeping the culture alive). Sloane is one of the fmc that i actually don’t hate even tho she did silly things. I felt so much of her passion, rage, and desire to be more and that just speaks to deborah’s amazing writing. It was so hard to keep remembering that she’s just a child with all the shit she had to endure.
My heart broke at some of the characters deaths but i was happy to see a certain person leave (he pissed me off so bad).
The book is a little intense but i am soo looking forward to the second book.
