Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand
5.0
The true story of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner turned bombardier in WW2. It's a story of survival and triumphs (however large or small) over tragedies.
So many WW2 stories detail the German invasion, so it was interesting to learn more about the part Japan played in the war. There are parts that are hard to read because of the terrible conditions and brutality faced, but there are also times when you can feel the camaraderie between the POWs and their determination to survive come straight through the pages.
I loved being able to read a physical copy of this book. Included throughout the chapters are pictures and foot notes that bring the narrative to life. They helped me remember that everything that happened was real. It's a sobering thought.
