The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
4.0
A very clever confection on how to live a better life as a Christian disguised as a set of letters from a senior devil to his incompetent nephew. Great fun to read because Professor Lewis doesn’t believe in pulling punches and delights in showing us how we try to disguise our motives and true beliefs under a guise of piety. I’m not religious, but being in the presence of a mind as well-read as Lewis makes the whole exercise bearable and even quite enjoyable: he’s not just skewering humanity and all its foibles, he’s having a ball as he does so!
