This Is Why They Hate Us by Aaron H. Aceves
5.0
Welp- I FUCKING ADORED THIS, I don't even know how to write a review to do it justice like sbfjsbfhefsjefse, this was hilarious, beautiful, sad, at times it made me very emotional and I feel like I've finally found a book I resonate with.
When I tell you that Quique is now one of my all-time favorite characters I'm not exaggerating, the way I relate to him (not only bc I'm also bi and Mexican) but because of how his mind works and how he feels so much the way that I do makes me so happy.
This has to be one of the best books with Latinx representation for young adults that I have ever read. It's not boring and it doesn't complain about how difficult it can be to be a young queer Latinx kid growing up in such a messed up world, it embraces that and deals with it in a way that makes it relatable, maybe a little bit painful but amazing at the same time.
I can't help thinking that this would make such a good tv show for teens. I mean the MATERIALLLLL, if I won the lottery I would make it one jsjsjjs.
Now if you'll excuse me I'm gonna go recommend this to every single bookworm friend I've got.
PS: Thank you so much to Amanda Ramirez at Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers for sending me a copy prior to its release.
