Alpha by Nora Ash

4.0

Not what I was expecting. Alpha by Nora West was a short and brutal story in the city of Mattenberg. I was not prepared for this genre, it was not entirely my cup of tea. I enjoyed the suspense, some aspects of Omegaverse were cool and I genuinely liked the relationship between the two main characters but there were a few things I just couldn’t get behind.

Alpha follows news reporter Leigh as she faces backlash for an unexpected personal event that sent the mayoral candidates of Mattenberg into a feral hormonal rage. This unexpected event put her career on the line and with the help of a masked stranger she tries to get her life back on track. Unknown to her, the reason for her unexpected event and the masked stranger are tied to her in ways she was not expecting.

Like I said before I was so no expecting what I was going to read. I have read some omegaverse books before, this actually might have been a little calmer than those. But still some of the concepts are just a no for me. I really did enjoy Leigh and her masked stranger. Their romance, if you can even call it that, was just super primal at times but also super sweet. Their basic instincts would override their civilized minds at times but when it would calm down and their reality would come back they really did seem great together. The ending was also super sweet. As always I would have liked to see where they’d be in a year or so. Another thing about the book was that there wasn’t a lot of depth to the story, which may be why it’s so short. I felt everything was so surface level. There was no deep heartfelt feelings or crazy drama/suspense that had you at the edge of your seat. I think if there was more meat to the story it’d be so hard to put down. Overall a great story. Would definitely recommend for those who enjoy the omegaverse genre. It’s not for everyone but I always keep an open mind.
