Across the Green Grass Fields by Seanan McGuire
3.0
I've been thinking about this book for ... well I would say a while but honestly its been like 15 hours since i finished it.
I really found this one lacking compared to its predecessors. I wish we had seen the school to be honest. I don't think we've had a book yet that featured an entirely new character that didnt also feature the school.... this was such a stand alone title and I think it was weaker for it.
While it was fun to grow up alongside Regan her story never really did much for me.
The intersex representation was nice, and its made me realize how little that is ever discussed considering its a common enough condition.
Hoofland never really blew me away, and I felt like the most interesting plots were brought up at the end and never really addressed.
I also immediately pegged the plot twist, which made for an anti-climactic reveal in the end.
I wanted a lot more tension and learning from the end of the book and instead we got the focus on her growing up. There were some wonderful lessons to be had, and the message of found family is a good one...
I just wanted the focus to be at a different part I guess....
