In the Shadows of the American Century: The Rise and Decline of US Global Power by Alfred W. McCoy
medium-paced
3.0
Interesting book kinda summarizing a bunch of trends in the American national security state—and the predecessor developments in the Philippines, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, and other conflicts. Kinda gets a bit over its skis at the end when it starts imagining possible futures, entering Tom Clancy country and speaking some confused nonsense (when discussing logarithms being calculated by supercomputers?).
Worth reading a lot of the interesting stuff was covered elsewhere and better by other books I've read, and not sure if the structure added very much to the elucidation.
