The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan
5.0
You would think after 10 books in this whole, overarching series would make me tired of it, but IT HASN’T!!! Because Apollo is a fantastically, self-centered, dramatic narrator and I love him for it.
As much as I miss the third person perspective from the Heroes of Olympus series, Apollo’s first person perspective reminds me a lot of how it felt reading the Percy Jackson series. However, unlike Percy, who was bumbling his way into heroic feats with a lot of uncertainty, panic, and irrationality, Apollo is bumbling his way through his problems with narcissism, panic, and music/poetry. It’s a refreshing change of pace to have a narrator that looks so highly upon himself, even after being brought down to what he believes is the lowest denominator.
I love seeing this character who has always been portrayed as cool and suave (and also VERY dramatic) through this series is now forced to confront his past and his inaction when it comes to the society he very well lives and thrives in as a god. You see his inaction in the previous books, and now, it bites him in the ass in this series.
Also, we stan chaotic bisexual Apollo. We love to see it!!
