Panorama of erotic sapphic artworks interspersed with a brief discussion of the in which lesbianism (and to a lesser extent same-sex attraction) has been viewed in the Western world since Antiquity, starting with Sappho! Informative but limited in insight (especially when conversation turned to the politicizing of lesbianism). Happy to also be reading “Compulsory Heterosexuality and the Lesbian Existence” for I hope it will provide me a satisfactory answer to the question posed by Döpp: “Is this not the
exact reverse of the abstruse theories of a Dr. Philos? Whoever is still committed to the phallus, even while rejecting it, will never achieve authentic and autonomous love, in whatever form. Even in its denial the phallus dominates.”

Similarly, am not quite convinced with Döpp conclusion that “current popularisation, trivialising and commercializing of previously "deviant" sexual behaviours - especially in the media - is accompanied by an increase in autoerotic behaviour. If the question is finally one of narcissistic self-satisfaction, then it is a matter of indifference whether the choie of partner is bisexual, homosexual or heterosexual.” So will also have to meditate on this one…
