The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin
5.0
I'm actually completely obsessed with this. Unfortunately, about 30 pages in, I come across Information (second hand) about the way that the author sometimes handles herself on social media, which does kind of cast a...idk...pall on certain aspects of it.
Whatever. This book is still crazy skillful and immersive, reminds me superficially of Dune, which I also liked a lot. There's enough laid out that the isn't jarring but still a gratifying reveal. I like the prose, I love the characters. The world building is grounded...lol...and deeply immersive.
I have a few minor, personal, gripes that don't actually affect the way that this book would have been read if I had only found out Information about Jemisin today instead of last week, so I won't get into it. So five stars.
