Progress by Amy Queau
5.0
Introverted, bullied, shy and naïve, Charlie is nonetheless a strong, independent and gutsy character who is very likeable. When she meets the blunt, troubled, flippant and gorgeous Jesse, her world is turned upside down. At first Jesse and Charlie seem a total mismatch, but they may just be able to help each other through the muddle of their lives.
I was immediately drawn into Charlie's world – and her exasperation with Jesse. I was with her every step of the way, and so was my heart – Amy Queau has done a fantastic job of presenting her characters and I was completely drawn into her world. But it isn't all about Charlie, I felt so sorry for Jesse and his problems, I almost missed the subtle signs of Charlie's deeper issues – poor lass, I just want to give her a hug.
Progress is an emotional and moving tale, in which Amy Queau demonstrates an excellent observation and understanding of obsession, psychology and human nature. This is a masterful portrayal of two very damaged people and their dysfunctional friendship/relationship which I found impossible to put down. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel, Interrupted, and will be keeping an eye out for more of Ms Queau's work.
