Warcross by Marie Lu

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved this book so much!! The plot was fast paced, the characters were great and the sort-of romance NEVER overthrew the main plot. It was similar to how I felt while reading Caraval by Stephanie Garber, in the sense that I was so immersed in the story, and sure it isn’t the best book I’ve ever read, but it was just so much fun to read.

WARCROSS
The game is genius so it deserves its own section. Basically Warcross is this game where you can sort of like see a different reality. So let’s say you’re casually walking down the street, you can see people with like virtual pet dragons AND IF YOU HAVE MET ME YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I WANT A PET DRAGON but it’s also a ‘survival’ game. You level up and gain power ups and go on leaderboards and stuff. The Warcross Championships are just where people from all over the world compete in rounds of survival levels within teams. There are four positions on each team: Shield, who’s job is to protect other players from opponents, Thief, who steals power ups, Fighter, which is pretty self explanatory and Architect, who alters items in the game. Can I just say I would do a hell of a lot to play that game.

CHARACTERS
This book is written in first person, and we follow a teenage hacker names Emika Chen. Another one of our main characters is Hideo Tanaka, the man who created Warcross at only thirteen (look at him, younger than me and already doing extraordinary things, whereas the most extraordinary thing I’ve done recently is pass my maths exams) Apart from Hideo and Emika, we get an absolutely wonderful cast of side characters !! I loved tHEM ALL but it was Emika’s team that made my heart go
