Juliet Takes a Breath by Gabby Rivera

5.0

This was a powerful coming of age story centering on the experience of a young, sapphic, Puerto Rican woman who is learning about her gender, sexuality, race, the intersection of her own identities, and the power of her own voice. The writing is both straightforward and beautiful-- an accomplished balance, in my opinion. The story is both universal and specific. I just think this book embodies everything I hope for in good fiction and does so in a way that seems effortless.
