They handle the topics with no sugarcoating and no condescension, while still exploring the content in a safe and approachable manner. The use of basic typography and colors to convey mood and meaning work better than pictures ever could. The use of the color of the page from white through purple to black to show the onset of Alzheimer's is very effective. The book is sad, as any book about a terminal and degenerative illness should probably be, but it is also informative and reassuring.
