The Folk of the Air by Holly Black
4.0
I reread this series in March 2023 and don´t feel like adding every single book to my reading challenge. After all, they are all quite short books.
I have to say this is really one of the best examples for a 4s-series. It is better than average; it is fast-paced, we have betrayal and intrigue and many interesting characters and world-building elements while the story is still very easy to follow. Especially nowadays, we are all so used to multi-POV books that this one is quite refreshing. The problems with this book, on the other hand, lie in the love story and also, the series is not outstanding enough to deserve 5 stars. Cardan and Judes' romantic relationship is not developed enough. For example, Cardan never really does anything to make up for his bad past behaviour, all we get is his sad past as an excuse for it. The two don´t share enough moments together where you could see a strong connection forming. Their feelings are just there.
I think that while rereading I actually liked the third instalment best and I have to say that I disagree with my original review a bit, because the "weird thing" that happens at the end, does come a bit out of nothing, but it was actually quite creative... I don´t know. The first two books I liked more the first time just because this time I knew the big surprises and wasn´t shocked anymore. All in all, I definitely recommend this series.
