With the 10th book in this series, we got to spend some much needed time with our characters, however that came at the cost of the stakes falling a little flat.
After the enormity of the ending of Bloodline (book 9), it was quite hard to feel like there was any real danger during the vast majority of this book. This made it hard to really believe in any of the stakes until near the end when our characters faced actual danger.
That being said, the lowering of stakes allowed Wight to really expand some of the history of the world, and gave room to explore some of the newer relationships dynamics in our gang of protagonists.
Further, Reaper finally brought together the two main plot lines that have been woven throughout the series. It was immensely satisfying to see these world’s collide in a satisfying and deftly foreshadowed twist. That moment alone mostly made Reaper feel worth it to me.
