“even though i kidnapped you, you were the one who took me captive. you’ve seen me at my worst and still chose to love me.”
every time i think michelle heard has done it all in her mafia books, throughout all 4 series, she publishes a new one and manages to surprise me. this was unexpectedly dark, and probably not in the way people would assume it to be considering some of her previous work. and yet, it might be one of my favorite stories by her. alexei will always be my number one, and while reading this i caught some similarities between both men and their respective books. it was a gamble for the author to set a new mafia series completely detached from her previous well established universe, and even though i'm still familiarizing myself with the new characters, this book finally cemented in me the value and worth of this series as its own seperate thing. i'm attached now, truly invested, and to think there's only two books left with no prospect of spin offs feels like finishing the sinners all over again before the corrupted royals was announced.
* i was sent an arc by the author in exchange for a honest review
