“You thought I was possessive before we fucked? I feel fucking unhinged now.”
This is the first book I've read by the author and it was good, I must say. Isaiah was such a sweetheart and I wanted to protect him from the world. He was loyal, kind, caring and considerate and he didn't deserve whatever happened with him. I hated Dean so much when I learned what he did and I was glad that for once, Kennedy took Isaiah's side. I liked both of them together but Isaiah obviously put more efforts in the relationship than Kennedy, I just waned her to reciprocate for once because Isaiah always made the first moves in the beginning and it was painful to see him getting brushed off. Still, I loved how he was always clear about what he felt and I liked the fact that he was so supportive of Kennedy's decision to take another job even if it meant moving away from him. I loved the first few chapters but then Kennedy got on my nerves tbh. On one hand, I could understand where she was coming from, given her upbringing but on the other, I just felt so bad seeing Isaiah get hurt in the middle of all this. For instance, there were two such scenarios where other people hit on both Kennedy & Isaiah and while Isaiah shrugged those attempts off, Kennedy still talked to the other guy without mentioning that she was married. And just before that chapter, she had gotten to know that Isaiah had been cheated on multiple times so I expected her to have some kind of understanding at least. And her family was so awful, I wanted to see them get humiliated but unfortunately no such thing happened. Kennedy also did not stand up for herself in front of them in the one scene they were present in the book. All work was done by Isaiah and I wanted her to grow a backbone atleast. She was acting kind of pathetic when she had the perfect opportunity to give it back to her family's faces. Kennedy was frustrating at times but I liked that there was some character development after 70% and she made up for being so oblivious. But the entire execution of their relationship felt underdeveloped to me tbh. As they got together for real, the book was already nearing it's end which was a bummer. Overall, I liked a few parts of the book especially the ones where Max was involved because his cuteness was just irresistible and it was nice to see the entire group of friends and the bonding between them. Also, I loved how Kai was concerned about his brother getting hurt and I liked how he always took care of him. It was heartwarming to see Kennedy slowly being a part of their family and her moments with Max & Miller were pretty good too. This series has such good reviews so I decided to pick this book up and while I enjoyed reading it, I still have some mixed feelings about the romance. So, this was a 3.5 star at it's best for me.
