I really enjoyed this debut novel more than I expected to! While witty and funny, this romance also included a lot of emotional themes such as generational trauma, starting over as an adult, etc. I appreciated Hannah’s commitment to herself and her infant son, and how she worked hard to try and build a new life from the scraps she had leftover from her time with her baby daddy. The chemistry the first half of the book between Hannah and River was 🔥 and Hannah was overall very relatable, though a bit too focused on “being an adult.” It was a little hard to see the second half of the book how River and Hannah fit together long term given how different their lives were, and it felt like that big conflict was resolved way too easily at the very end of the book without enough follow through. I liked that the conflict was significant and took a bit of time to resolve though, I just wanted more time spent showing the character growth and how both parties compromised to build a life together. The ending was a little bit ridiculous and the conclusion was too perfect considering all the complicated relationships the book introduced. I love the complicated relationships, don’t get me wrong, but the ending was a bit unrealistic. I look forward to reading more by this author because they did such a good job on this heartfelt romance!
