The Push by Ashley Audrain

5.0

The journey was torturous, rewarding, heartbreaking, and exhilarating all in one. I got this book as a thriller recommendation but this is not a thriller. I believe it is more of a women's dramatic fiction. I am a mother who has never had any of these feelings towards my children, I guess you could call me a boring run-of-the-mill mom.
However, I could relate to every single thing Blythe went through. I understood her thoughts, actions, and reasoning. My heart ached for her, tears fell down my face as I read the words scattered on the pages that sat between the hardened cardboard shell of this book.
There are moments where you start to question everything in life, everyone around you. After all, we hardly know ourselves most of the time, how are we supposed to trust the people around us? Trust them to not harm us or lie to us, not bring harm to the people we care for most.
This book is so deep and dark that I wanted to crawl inside of it, I wanted to hold it tight and whisper, "Everything will be okay." Be prepared to have your heart ripped out, deep-fried, and served to you on a stale bun. The taste it will leave in your mouth is repulsing and the thoughts it will leave in your mind are intoxicating.
Brav-fucking-o!
