From Here to Equality: Reparations for Black Americans in the Twenty-First Century by A. Kirsten Mullen, William A. Darity

4.0

honestly, a really good book. the arguments are so clearly laid out and written well. i came across a recommendation for this title by reading the 1619 project earlier this year because it mentioned reparations a few times and i know what it means in theory but this book does an excellent job of not only explaining why they’re important, but suggesting what it should consist of and how it’s carried out.

the part of the book that moved me the most was the passage saying that reparations should not come from a place of guilt, but rather a sense of patriotism and pride that we want to improve our country and make it a better place to live for all. it clearly lays out exactly why it would be helpful and how reparations would do that, and outlining just how crucial generational wealth is in economic well-being/success which also kind of blew my mind.
